What are the types of size reduction equipment?

Size reduction is the process of reducing solid masses to smaller or finer particles using various techniques and pieces of equipment.
The method of size reduction, commonly referred to as comminution or pulverization, is done in two ways- mechanical and precipitation. Whilst the latter uses an appropriate solvent to reduce the masses, the former relies on grinding machines.

During the mechanical process, the manufacturer needs some robust size reduction equipment. To discover what these are, keep reading.

1. Jaw crusher- It appears V-shaped and is made with a fixed and movable jaw. The mass is placed between the two jaws and the movable one is used to coerce the force. The size is reduced from top to bottom, cracking the solid into larger lumps initially and then reducing them to smaller particles in the next stroke.

2. Gyratory crusher- It has circular jaws, where the materials are fed, but these are first introduced into the V-shaped notch, located between the head and metal casing. Size reduction occurs in this V-shaped area, and the speed varies from 100 to 450 gyrations per minute. What are the perks? The machine consumes lesser energy and has low maintenance.

3. Roll crusher- This is yet another type of size reduction equipment with two equal-sized rolls- one that rotates clockwise and the other anti-clockwise. The two rollers roll on the same horizontal axes, causing friction between the material and the roller’s surface.

4. Hammer mill- As the name suggests, the machine consists of a hammer connected to a motor. The materials are placed in the metal casing where the hammer strikes, reducing the mass into pieces. The particles then pass through a screen and are collected by a receiver.

Are you in search of the right size reduction equipment? Check the ones mentioned above and make an informed decision.
