Now that we are well into 2014, it is always fun to look back to see what the past year brought us. When it came to Bollywood movies of 2013, it was definitely an important year. There were some mega hits in 2013, as well as some major flops. What really counts in Bollywood, however, is the amount of money that was collected at the box office. Here are the top 10 Bollywood movies on 2013 by box office collection:
10 – Special Chabbis (Special 26)
Inspired by a true story, this thriller film about a major heist starred Akshay Kumar and Kajal Aggarwal. It was directed by Neeraj Pandey. It brought in 70 crore in 2013.
9 – Aashiqui 2
Romance, drama and music made Aashiqui 2 a hit last year and helped it bring in 85.40 crore. The film was directed by Mohit Suri and starred Shraddha Kapoor and rumoured boyfriend, Aditya Roy Kapur.
8 – Race 2
Coming in at number 8, Race 2 earned 102.00 crore and starred Saif Ali Khan, Anil Kapoor and an ensemble staff. The film was directed by Abbas-Mustan.
7 – Grand Masti
Adult comedy film Grand Masti impressed moviegoers in 2013 to the tune of 102.50 crore in 2013. It was directed by Indra Kumar.
6 – Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
Sports film based on the life of Milkha Singh came in at number 6 for 2013 making 103.50 crore. Starring Farhan Akhtar as Singh and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, the film was a smash hit.
5 – Ramleela
The film, Ramleela, starring Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone was the romantic hit of the year. An adaptation of ‘Romeo and Juliet’, the film was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and brought in 110.00 crore.
4 – Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani
This coming of age comedy, sprinkled with romance, brought in 190.03, just short of the 200 crore club. It was directed by Ayan Mukerji.
3 – Chennai Expres : Chennai Express was one of the top films of the year based on audience reviews and box office returns. Though critics didn’t like it, it didn’t stop filmgoers from spending 226.70 crore on tickets.
2 – Krrish 3
Bringing in 240.50 crore in 2013, Krrish 3 was a hit all around. It was directed by Rakesh Roshan and was declared a blockbuster.
1 – Dhoom 3
Action film Dhoom 3 brought in the prize for bringing in the most money in 2013. Directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, it made an astonishing 280.25 crore.
