Many people who need to wear corrective lenses to improve their vision may start out wearing contacts, or they may transition to them after wearing eyeglasses for a while. If you’re new to using contacts, here are some tips for wearing them.
Check Lenses
Prior to putting in your contacts, you should check to make sure they are not inverted. Put a contact on the tip of your finger and closely examine it. If the contact forms a “U” shape, then it is correctly shaped and you can place it in your eye. Some manufacturers of contact lenses in Adrian, MI put a laser marking on the lenses, so that if the marking is readable, you know the lens is in the correct position.
Applying Them
Some people are hesitant about wearing contacts because they don’t like the thought of applying them, but it is in fact easy to do. First, gently shake the container holding your contact lenses and solution, to loosen the lenses. Then, placing one contact lens in the palm of your hand, apply contact eye solution to rinse it.
Putting the lens on the tip of your finger, use the other hand to gently widen your eyelids and bring the lens to the eye. Apply it while looking forward or upward, then close the eye, roll it around to help the lens settle, and blink. Open your eye to make sure the contact lenses are in place and that you can see without any problems.
Preventing Dry Eyes
When wearing contact lenses, some people have problems with their eyes drying out, especially if they smoke or are in an air-conditioned building most of the day. Drink plenty of water to keep your body, including your eyes, hydrated, and use hydrating eye drops when necessary. Get more information about wearing contacts here: .
Always wash and dry your hands prior to handling contacts, to prevent germs from transferring to your eyes.
