If Humans Can Get Diagnostic Scans In South Jersey, Why Can’t Their Pets?

by | Apr 15, 2015 | Pets

Economics is, as always, part of the problem. Science has come up with many wonderful devices that allow medical doctors to study totally real “pictures” of what is actually inside most parts of our bodies.

Armed with these tools the doctors can be far more accurate in their diagnoses of whatever it was that made us visit their hospital in the first place. These same tools that tell the doctor what is wrong are also very useful when it comes to predicting what might go wrong in the future – if you do not start to take preventative measures (and start now, immediately). Unfortunately, these “tools” are very expensive pieces of high-tech technology.

Can the hospital afford to get them and will the patients be prepared to pay accordingly so that the hospital gets its fair return on the investment? If such questions have to be asked when the patients are human beings, how much more relevant are they when the patients will all be animals of some kind or another?

It’s Not Really A Question Of Animal Rights
What it boils down to is more a question of owners’ rights. Whether the animal is a domestic pet, a working animal or an exotic zoo animal; someone owns it. Moreover, the owner may have spent a considerable amount of money in purchasing the animal or training it to perform a specific function for the owner. In such cases, the owner has a vested interest in keeping the animal alive and well for as long as possible.

Then, there is also the question of animals that are owned purely to be domestic pets. Some of these may be purebreds that did cost a lot of money. However, many may be “salvage” animals or mixed breed with little or no initial financial outlay.

But, the whole point of having a pet in your home is that the pet becomes a virtual member of your family. Maybe you don’t put your pet above your children but you certainly do want that pet to have the same rights to medical help as your whole family and, usually, you are prepared to pay for that. Alternatively, you may have taken out health insurance to cover your pet’s welfare.

Today’s Owners Are Prepared To Pay
That we do really care for our pets and other animals is evident in the number of veterinary clinics that now offer a Pet Radiology Scan In South Jersey area. The scanning equipment is used for diagnostic purposes, both to pinpoint specific problems and to provide early warnings of possible future problems.
