How many times have you wanted to hang something on the wall and it turned into a huge problem? In fact, it can be a major concern in commercial applications. Thanks to z-clip technology, hanging and fastening is a simple and efficient operation. Here is more about this product and the many benefits it can provide.

What are Z-Clips?

A z-clip is a panel hanger in the shape of the letter “z”. They were first called French cleats and it is believed this name came from ship builders in France during the early part of the 19th Century. After the main part of the ship was built, it was necessary to add things to the walls and interlocking wood strips served the purpose well. By attaching one strip over another, it formed a clip or cleat which perfectly interlocked with a matching cleat attached permanently to the wall.

The big advantage of French cleats was the convenience they created. When hanging most items on walls, they could be difficult to remove, as things on ships had to be very secure. However, thanks to the cleats, it was easy to remove and replace items. Just remove the top cleat (attached to the item or panel) which was interlocked into a bottom cleat.

Modern French cleats were used in the building boom after WWII. They made hanging panels very easy and there was no need to place nails or screws in the face of the panels. Today they are known as z-clips and z-clip technology is becoming very popular. Here are some of the benefits it can provide:

* Save on installation costs – with z-clip technology you can drastically cut your installation time. In fact, it can be as much as fifty percent.

* No special skills are required for installation.

* Z-clips are very strong and secure – the interlocking design makes these clips perfect for many different applications. Plus removing and re-hanging once the clips are installed is very quick and convenient.

* Can be reused over and over.

Z-clip Uses

You can use z-clips in a number of situations. For example:

* Mirrors

* Wall panels

* Acoustic panels

* Frames

* Signs

* Cabinets

* Partitions

Some types of hangers or hanger systems can be unsightly due to the way they must be installed. However, when properly installed, your z-clip installation remains hidden and you don’t even know they are there. In addition, you can buy these clips in pre-cut lengths with pre-drilled holes, and if you have custom needs, your z-clip supplier can take care of those for you.
