Visiting the dentist on a regular basis is crucial to keep your gums and teeth healthy. It is suggested that you have your teeth checked up at minimum every six months. There are two different parts of your dental visit at NuSmile Dental.
The Check Up
The first part of your dental visit will consist of your dentist checking your teeth for cavities and seeing fi there are any areas of plaque or tartar build up. Plaque is a sticky and clear layer of bacterial. If this plaque is not removed then it will harden and become a substance called tartar. You will not be able to remove the tartar with just flossing and brushing alone. If you allow the plaque and tartar to build up on your teeth, it can lead to serious oral diseases.
Once your teeth are checked, then the dentist will check your gums. This is completed with a special type of tool that will measure the spaces that are present between your gums and your teeth. When you have healthy gums, there will be shallow spaces between your teeth and gums. If you have gum disease the spaces that are present will become much deeper. During the check-up your dentist will also check your throat, neck, head face and tongue to look for any signs of issues.
The Cleaning
The second part of your visit at the NuSmile Dental office will be the cleaning. While flossing and brushing can remove some of the plaque from your teeth, you cannot remove any tartar build up. During the actual cleaning process, the dentist will use special equipment and tools to remove any built up tartar, which is called scaling.
After your teeth have been scaled and tartar is removed, they will have to be polished. This is completed with a type of gritty paste. It helps to remove the surface stains that are present on your teeth. The final step that is preformed is flossing. The dentist you visit will use the floss to ensure that the areas that are present in between your teeth remain clean and healthy.
