For many manufacturers, OEMs and fabricators, finding the right fastener for the job is often a challenge. This is usually the case when they are in a rut about using a specific type of bolt or fastener and working around the problems and challenges that this choice poses.
A good example of this is using a bolt that is too long for what it needed. Another example is using a bolt that doesn’t have the right head to be easy to use and effective. To address these issues, it is important to consider all of your options, including the use of bent bolts, anchor bolts, all thread or spade bolts.
Of the options listed above, the spade head or bolt is perhaps the least frequently used. However, these bolts are a great option for many different types of applications.
Eye Bolts
You may sometimes hear spade bolts called eye bolts. This because of the longer, flat head of the bolt, which resembles a flat, elongated spade shape, often has one or two holes. These holes, or eyes, can be used to attach components that include wire, coils or even capacitors to a part.
These bolts come in a range of different sizes. As they can be used on everything from electrical systems and components to larger equipment as a fast, reliable fastener, there are many lengths, diameters and head shapes to consider.
Constant Use
For some applications, particularly where something will constantly be opened and secured, the use of spade bolts with a longer, flat head is the perfect option. They can be easily tightened and loosened by hand, meaning no need to have tools to secure the front of a panel or to secure an access area.
Threads and diameter of these bolts can also be customized to specific needs. The length of the thread down the bolt is another factor to consider and this can be developed to match the size of the head for specific types of applications and uses.
