When truck owners are looking to improve or trick out their ride, they are typically given two options: aftermarket parts or OEM Ram parts. To help you make the decision as to which type is best for your truck, we’ve put together a concise list of the pros and cons that come with investing in our Mopar OEM Ram Parts.
What Are OEM Ram Parts?
Any parts that are described as “OEM” have been made by the vehicle’s manufacturer (in this case, Dodge). Parts that are OEM match those that came with your factory vehicle.
How Do Aftermarket Parts Differ?
The major difference is that aftermarket parts aren’t developed by the vehicle manufacturer. This comes with its own set of pros and cons.
How OEM Parts Trump Aftermarket Parts
There are a number of “pros” that come with choosing a Mopar OEM part:
* Assured Quality: Given that our OEM part was made by the truck’s manufacturer, it should work exactly as the part that you’re replacing. It’s the same as what the vehicle was originally manufactured with, and so it should predicatively perform the same.
* Easier to Choose: When you stick with OEM, you know what you’re getting. This will save you countless hours investigating prices, different brands and performance specs
* Covered By Warranty: Perhaps the most important consideration of all is that our OEM parts are covered by a warranty. While many aftermarket products won’t void your vehicle’s warranty, the part itself will likely not be covered.
Where OEM Parts Fall Short
Just as there are benefits that come with OEM parts, there are also some drawbacks to consider. The first depends on your budget.
* More Expensive: Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) has estimated that OEM bodywork parts cost around 60% more than aftermarket. The good news is that we have seen this gap closing as a growing number of dealers and companies like us are now starting to compete with other independent shops and mechanics.
* Often Must Be Purchased at the Dealership: This isn’t exactly true since OEM Dodge parts can be purchased online, such as through the Mopar website. The key is to choose a website that promises fast shipping so that it ca be received fast enough to complete the repair. The other great thing about us is that we have multiple physical locations that are fully stocked with the parts you need. Stick with a reliable and reputable company like ours and we’ll be sure to get the piece there on time.
* Quality Not Always Better: The quality is assured when you purchase an OEM part through your warranty. Many truck owners justify taking the OEM part route because the part will be better quality than aftermarket. This is often the case but is not necessarily always true as some aftermarket parts offer superior performance. Keep in mind that incredibly high quality aftermarket pieces are often extremely costly and come with no guarantee to work with your truck.
