Epoxy resin countertops are durable, flame, moisture resistant, and can handle most chemical spills, so they are a common choice of countertop for laboratory facilities. But proper cleaning and maintenance are still essential to maintain maximum functionality.
Don’t Scrub – Buff
Abrasive friction may damage and dull the epoxy resin surface. Instead, use a soft towel and gently buff the surface. If there are textured stains or particles stuck onto the epoxy resin worktop, scrub lightly with a soft bristled brush and finish with a gentle buff.
Clean Spills Immediately
The longer a spill is in contact with the worktop, the more likely it will stain the surface. Whenever you do spill, clean it up as soon as you are able.
Steam Clean
Resistant to heat and water, steam cleaning an epoxy resin worktop can loosen most organic stains and allow them to be wiped away without damaging the surface.
Restoring Luster
To restore luster on an epoxy resin worktop, occasionally apply finish oil or Murphy’s Oil. But use in moderation, as too much oil will make the surface cloudy. Apply a minimum amount of oil and gently rub in the oil in a circular motion. Wipe away all excess oil with a separate clean cloth and buff to desired shine.
In general, always start with the gentlest cleaners; volatile cleaners like acetone should be avoided as much as possible. Avoid using wax or polishes containing wax, and never use abrasive scrubbing pads, particularly when dry. Proper maintenance will facilitate the longevity of the epoxy resin worktop and allow for long-term effectiveness in the lab.
