Any welding project can be dangerous, whether it is spot welding or structural welding. Below are three tips to ensure that you and others do not become injured during the welding process – and they are surprisingly easy.
Cover your Skin
When you are welding, you run the risk of being burned, and that means you need to cover any exposed skin. Wear long-sleeved shirts, tuck your pants into your boots, and most importantly, remember to wear gloves. While flying sparks won’t kill you, they can certainly cause burns that you will regret later. As a side note, make sure that you avoid keeping any flammable substances in your pockets as they could ignite during the welding process.
Get the Right Welding Gear
During structural welding, spot welding, or vehicular welding, you do not want to wear shorts or at -shirt. It is strongly recommended that you wear flam resistant clothing made from the tightly woven material. Denim, for example, is a great choice even if you just want to do a quick spot weld.
Wear Gloves
If your excuse for not wearing gloves while you are wearing is that they are uncomfortable, then you are setting yourself up for a potential accident. Gloves are now ergonomically curved and designed for specific processes. MIG/Stick welding activities now have their gloves, and TIG gloves with added dexterity are also a possibility.
Welding mishaps are not only dangerous, but they could also seriously delay a project. That’s why wearing the right gear while you weld is crucial, and doing so will ensure that you start and finish the job safely and on time.
