Innovative Jewish Education Preschool in Rockville MD

The B’nai Tzedek congregation have 600 member families and is operating an innovative program to increase involvement in the educational programs and the community. The Board of Directors have voted to continue the program for two more years that will take it through the 2016-2017 school year. The program focuses on their Jewish Education Preschool in Rockville MD and reduction in tuition for all families with children attending the preschool and a subsidy for new families that are eligible. The early success of the program in its first year has prompted its continuation.

Tuition can be expensive and that can sometimes discourage families from enrolling their children. New families receive a 50% tuition subsidy if they are eligible and if they agree to a commitment or 10 hours a month of meaningful activities within the Community Builder’s program. Your family gets a mentor who has been a member of the congregation for several years to help orientate you to the school, the services and the Community Builder’s program. There are many varied opportunities to participant in services, events, Men’s and Women’s groups, volunteering and adult classes. The concept was developed based on the idea that vibrant congregations result in vibrant communities in which all participants grow and flourish. You choose how you will participate and the hours are kept in a log for accountability.

This approach to Jewish Education Preschool in Rockville MD is succeeding with enrollment up and more involvement by new and young families in the congregation. This program has gotten media attention in the surrounding area and has allowed for more events and more outreach within the community at large. Enrollment for the 2015-2016 school year is set to begin sometime in December.  The program will, hopefully, catch on in other congregations and communities across the country.  Expenses are on the rise for any congregation and participation is steadily decreasing across the board. This innovation may encourage other congregations to think of new ways to engage people to join and celebrate in community. From that point, they can become intricately involved in their surrounding communities as well. Click here for more information.
