Tips for Becoming a Surrogate Mother

A surrogate mother is a woman who decides that she will become the carrier of someone else’s child. To become a surrogate mother, you need to prepare yourself and be in very good condition physically. You need to remember that you are going to be carrying another couple’s child and should not become emotionally attached. There are two ways that you can become a surrogate, you can find both of those below and a few tips on how to become one.

Educate Yourself

The first thing you will want to do is educate yourself. Find out about the laws concerning surrogacy in your state, as different states have different rules. You will also want to read all that you can on the subject in books and articles.

Assess Your Needs

To Become a Surrogate mother, you will want to assess your needs as well. Questions such as if your family will be onboard with this, do you have insurance, or should the couple provide it, and could you deal with complications, are important questions to ask yourself.

Choose a Direction

You can become a surrogate in two ways. You can go through an agency or you can be an independent. You need to study both ways, talk to some agencies, and decide which the best option for you is.

Using an Agency

If you decide to use an agency, you will need to sign up and fill out all of the paperwork. The agency will then send you out to interview with potential families to determine which best suits you and if you suit their needs as well.

Being an Independent

Remember that if you choose to be an independent surrogate, you will have to handle all of the fees and the paperwork yourself with no help. You will want to find a couple that you bond with, then draw up a contract that you both can agree on. Remember that they are out there finding a surrogate mother, just as you are looking to be one.

These are just a few tips to help you get started as a surrogate mother. Remember, that you have to be a special type of woman to help someone in this way. Think long a hard, before you make this decision for yourself and another couple.
