Signs Your Brakes Need Repair Immediately
Brakes are nothing to mess around with. A faulty break system can lead to anything from a rough ride to a devastating accident. Fortunately, break repairs are fairly straightforward and the worse can be prevented with a periodic checkup.
Why Quick Repairs are Important
There are several reasons why you should attend to any issue with your brakes as quickly as possible. First, and most obvious, failed brakes are a very serious and highly dangerous occurrence even when driving at low speeds. They can result in serious accidents, injury and even loss of life.
Second, the longer you put off getting your brakes inspected and repaired the more costly the repairs are likely to be. Simply replacing pads and machining rotors is a low cost option but if the rotors are seriously damaged and cannot be machined or if the calipers and other brake components are damaged the cost or repair can double or triple.
Signs of Brake Problems
There are some tell-tale signs to watch for when driving that will let you know you need to have your brakes inspected. These include:
* Vibration on the brake pedal when you apply the brakes
* Vehicle veers, turns, or pulls to one side when the brakes are applied.
* Squealing when applying the brakes is a sign your brake pads or rotors need to be replaced.
* Grinding sounds, or metal on metal grating, when the brakes are applied can be caused by worn rotors, bad calipers, or both.
Have your brakes inspected at least once a year or as recommended by your vehicle maintenance schedule.
